Me: As someone who has tattoos, how do you commit to getting a particular one?
Artist: I'm also a tattoo artist in addition to having some of my own! When I'm thinking of getting a new tattoo, I first get to know the artist. I spend time with them, get to know their work, see what they're currently into and just generally establish a relationship.
Then, after sometime, once I have a mental concept for a tattoo I'm looking for I'll go in and start to explore it with them. There'll be some back and forth and discussion on the broad underpinnings for the tattoo but I don't usually get too specific, preferring them to put their spin on it.
We start with a loose concept and then collectively refine the idea which they create as the finished piece.
In this way, I don't really have any fear of commitment because it's free flowing from the start!
